Workaround to suppress TextWrangler upgrade prompts

TextWrangler is an awesome cost-free text editor from Bare Bones Software. If you want to pay a little more, you can get all the features of BBEdit.

But, honestly, if you want to keep using TextWrangler, it starts to get annoying when this pops up from time to time: bbeditupgradeprompt

Fortunately, there’s a workaround for that. Originally I had this whole convoluted approach that involved scheduling the last-prompted-for-upgrade date to be today’s date. Thanks to a tip from @gmarnin (on the Mac admins Slack), apparently you can set the date to be in the future, and it shouldn’t prompt you.

I have created a profile for that, which you can use if you’d like. Just sub in the actual name of your organization for NAMEOFYOURORGANIZATION.

  1. Thank you very much for this!
Although I wonder whether specifying an organization is even necessary. Guess I’ll find out over the coming weeks. (I simply closed the tag properly and didn’t specify anything)
